Celtic and Rangers have joined the race to sign Barnsley star Conor Hourihane, according to claims in the Scottish media. The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Barnsley this season, and the player has also been linked with Aston Villa in recent days.

The Scottish Sun have today claimed the two SPL giants are monitoring Hourihane after he picked up Championship Player of the Month award for August. Both clubs will be keen to strengthen in the next transfer window, and it could come down to whether the former U21 Republic of Ireland international will head to Celtic Park or Ibrox in the New Year.

Barnsley will be keen to keep hold of the midfielder following their stunning start to the season, which sees them lie 3rd in the table. However, with the two Glasgow clubs, Aston Villa and also Wigan Athletic interested, the South Yorkshire side’s resolve is likely to be tested in the New Year.
