According to a claim in the Swedish media, Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is on the verge of leaving the Scottish Premiership champions.

The 32 year old’s contract with Celtic will expire in the coming weeks and despite the Hoops having the option to extend this for another season it now seems his seven year stay with the club is coming to an end.

Expressen have reported on the latest developments with regards to Lustig’s future and say he will be signing for Belgian side Gent. It’s claimed the Celtic defender has today flown out to Belgium and pending his medical he will join the Jupiler side.

In the past week, Lustig has been linked with a return to his home country with reports AIK and Malmo were interested in the Celtic right back.

However, it was also reported there was interest from outside of Sweden and it seems Gent will win the race to sign the player.
