Celtic and Aberdeen are the only teams unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership this season. The two teams are level on points, with Brendan Rodgers’ side leading the table due to superior goal difference.
Aberdeen have enjoyed an impressive spell since Jimmy Thelin arrived at the club in April. Celtic’s current title rivals are unbeaten in 18 games under the Swedish coach’s orders.
As reported by Fotbollskanalen, Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke is pleased with Thelin’s ‘success’ at Aberdeen.
The Sweden international knows the Aberdeen manager very well as he played under his orders at IF Elfsborg. It was Thelin who signed the 24-year-old for the Swedish club from Västerås SK in 2021.
Celtic have allowed the centre-back to spend this season on loan at FC Twente, but he’s still keeping an eye on what’s happening in Scotland and is clearly impressed by Aberdeen and Thelin.
“It’s great fun. We have had some contact during the time in Scotland and also before he moved there. So, it’s great that it’s going so well. It’s fantastic to be undefeated for so long and to take up the fight with Celtic, it’s incredibly well done,” he said.
The defender was asked if Aberdeen can now threaten Celtic for the title this season.
Responding to that, Lagerbielke explained: “It’s incredibly big. Celtic and Rangers have won every title since the 80s.
“So, the fact that someone else is in the mix, at least for a little while, is a big deal. And you’re nine points ahead of Rangers too, which is really cool.”
