Celtic striker Albian Ajeti has laughed off criticism from former Hoops star Ramon Vega, who has questioned the striker being a part of the Switzerland squad.
Ajeti was recently called up to the Switzerland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with the Swiss short on options up front due to injuries.
His return has not been widely accepted, though, with Blick covering how the decision has ‘triggered a discourse’ among analysts of the team.
That’s largely due to his record so far, with the striker only managing 90 minutes on three occasions so far this season.
One of those who have been heavily critical is former Switzerland and Celtic star Ramon Vega, who ‘blasted’ the decision and pretty much hung Ajeti out to dry.
“I am surprised that Ajeti was called up. Frey would have been the better choice. I don’t see much dynamism and speed in Ajeti,” Blick report him saying.
“I only see some enforcer qualities in Ajeti, but he implements them too rarely. I don’t know what he stands for as a striker. Frey, on the other hand, is fast and scores.”
That is criticism that Blick decided to put to Ajeti when they spoke to him this week, asking him what he thought of the comments by his compatriot.
It seems the Celtic man was completely unperturbed by the furore his return is causing, though, laughing off Vega’s criticism.
“Ramon Vega? Who is that?” Blick have him saying in response.
“That’s his opinion, but he doesn’t make the line-up, so I’m less interested.
“We have to deal with criticism. That’s football. That’s part of it. I can live with it well. Of course, things can always be better, but I fight and do my best.”
