Celtic striker Albian Ajeti could be handed a reward for his fine form at the beginning of this season with a return to the Switzerland squad for the upcoming October internationals.

Bluewin explain that with Haris Seferovic ‘at risk’ of being out injured for the next World Cup qualifying matches, Murat Yakin needs to find a replacement.

He’s set to be out for up to a month with a torn muscle fibre, and so there are four options to provide the goals that they need.

Ajeti is among the ‘hottest candidates’ according to the website, having established himself as an ‘undisputed regular’ for Celtic this season and scored two goals in three games thus far.

He has experience with the national team, having made 11 appearances since his debut in 2018, a figure that would be higher had he not spent a year sat on the bench at West Ham.

Either way, his ‘impressive performances’ this season have apparently put him in Yakin’s sights, and there’s a feeling that could be enough to get him a return to the international set-up, where he hasn’t featured since a 1-1 draw against Germany last year.

Of course, he’ll have to continue scoring goals for Celtic first, and we’d suggest he probably needs more than two goals against Ross County to really be in contention.

Still, it seems he’s on the list regardless should Seferovic be out of action, which is something at least.
