While the English transfer window might be shut, that isn’t the case elsewhere in Europe, and Marseille could still prove to be a pain in the backside for Celtic.

Their target is, of course, Moussa Dembélé, who remains an option for the Ligue 1 side, who have now completely missed out on Mario Balotelli, their primary target.

Despite the club’s president stating a new striker wasn’t the priority, local newspaper La Provence’s information appears to be different, and the Celtic man is still high on Andoni Zubizarreta’s wishlist.

The Marseille director of football has been in constant contact with the French forward’s entourage throughout the summer, and was even honest enough to tell them he wasn’t their top priority, as that was Balotelli.

That being said, Dembélé’s profile still hasn’t convinced everyone within the Ligue 1 side, and that will need to happen before a move is made.

La Provence claim that should Marseille come forward with an intent to sign the 22-year-old before August 31st, Celtic wouldn’t be against him leaving as long as they get their money’s worth.

A direct transfer of €15-20m should do the trick, but the option of a loan with an obligation to buy is also said to be ‘conceivable’.

Things could move very quickly in the next eight days.
