Today is Moussa Dembélé day at Celtic, whether you like it or not.

It all started after the French striker missed training this morning, which Brendan Rodgers clarified on Wednesday afternoon as being due to the 22-year-old holding talks with a club amid great interest in his services.

Then came the line from France that Lyon were in the lead, while Marseille’s chances of getting the Celtic star were ‘weak at best’.

Le10 Sport then tried their best to send Dembélé to Germany, without much success, and the general consensus appears to be that Jean-Michel Aulas was about to get his man after Celtic started looking at strikers just after midday.

If that wasn’t enough, more information is now emerging in the forward’s home country, as Foot Mercato now claim that Marseille did make an offer for the Celtic man, which was turned down.

Why that happened seems fairly straightforward: the Ligue 1 side tried to include Clinton Njie in the deal.

While the former Tottenham man has his uses, prolific goalscoring has never been his strongest attribute, so it’s easy to see why Celtic said no.
