Paris Saint Germain youngster Mitchel Bakker says he hasn’t ‘heard about’ any interest from Celtic this summer.
Reports in both Scotland and England have linked the Scottish champions with a move for the PSG left-back, with one even claiming the French giants had already rejected a loan offer from Neil Lennon’s side.
Those same reports indicated that Celtic’s priority this summer is to sign a left-back and finally replace Kieran Tierney, while they would also like to add further cover in central defence.
Bakker, who can play in both positions, would have therefore been an ideal option, but PSG weren’t keen to sanction a deal.
Talks, though, were very much still ongoing between the two clubs, who have a good relationship after both Timothy Weah and Odsonne Edouard moved to Parkhead on loan, the latter later joining permanently for £9m.
It was implied, then, that the door was not completely shut on a deal, although Bakker says that he’s not heard anything about a potential transfer.
“I haven’t heard about Celtic, but I want to stay with PSG and hope even more for playing time,” he told NOS.
“I look around (at PSG), and I think: yes, these are really beautiful things. Normally you don’t experience this so quickly, so I cherish it.”
That would suggest any potential move to Celtic is very much on the backburner for Bakker at this moment in time.
Indeed, he seems determined to stay at PSG if he can, although given the quality in their squad that isn’t always an option if he wants to play.
He would be wise to look at the likes of Edouard, who has thrived at Celtic since leaving, and consider whether that may be more beneficial than a place on the bench at best in Paris.
