Celtic striker Albian Ajeti is the ‘more likely’ candidate for Basel should they need a replacement for Arthur Cabral this month.
That’s according to Blick, who say the Swiss striker is a logical solution for his former club if they need to replace the Brazilian.
Cabral has been linked with a move to Fiorentina as a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who is seemingly close to a move to Juventus.
His departure would leave a huge hole for Basel to fill, and they might look to their former striker to do it.
Ajeti managed 43 goals and 21 assists in 96 games during his first spell with Basel, a ‘top quota’ and something that makes him a firm fan favourite at the club.
He’s not been able to repeat that at Celtic, but Basel remain keen on him, and the fact he is a homegrown player is another positive.
His return would ‘increase the red-blue DNA’ in the current squad, something the Swiss side are seemingly keen on too.
Blick make no mention of whether Basel would make a permanent move or look to sign the striker on loan from Celtic, just that he is one of the options they are looking at.
It all depends on whether Vlahovic moves and then Fiorentina sign Cabral, two deals which very much can happen before deadline day and force Basel to turn their attention to Celtic Park and Ajeti.
