Celtic’s Carl Starfelt has withdrawn from Sweden’s squad for the upcoming international break.
That’s according to Aftonbladet, who say that the Celtic man is one of nine players to drop out of Janne Andersson’s squad.
They explain that Andersson received nine ‘cancellations’ for the upcoming international break, with Albin and Hjalmar Ekdal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kerim Mrabti, Emil Krafth, Joakim Nilsson, Jesper Karlsson, Carl Starfelt and Filip Helander among those to pull out.
Sweden are set to face Serbia and Slovenia in the Nations League next week, looking to round off group B in the top two.
They cannot catch Norway in first as they are currently seven points behind them but could overtake Serbia, who sit four points ahead in second.
It seems, though, Andersson optimistically tried to call up some players who are not fit, and Celtic’s Starfelt is one of them.
Ange Postecoglou is expected to be without Starfelt until some time in October, so Sweden obviously knew the Celtic player was unlikely to be available for his country.
