Erik Sviatchenko being told he can leave Celtic is of course big news in Denmark. The central defender has fallen out of Brendan Rodgers’ plans and been told he can find a new club in the winter transfer window.
With Denmark having qualified for the World Cup, Sviatchenko naturally wants to be at the tournament in Russia, but he simply has to be playing and doing well to stand a chance. Denmark are particularly strong in their central defensive options, and the Celtic player’s hopes are slim at best.
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet have Sviatchenko on the front page of their sport section on Tuesday, and cover the news from Scotland before adding what they know.
It’s stated FC Copenhagen probably won’t follow up interest from the summer. The club decided against the Celtic deal due to cost and fears over the player’s fitness.
Sviatchenko himself would prefer an English move, explain Ekstra Bladet, but there doesn’t seem an awful lot of interest there right now.
More likely, say the Danish newspaper, is a move to Belgium or France, where there’s interest in the Celtic player.
