Former Celtic forward Henrik Larsson has revealed that his best moments at the club was stopping Rangers winning ten league titles in a row. The Ibrox club would have been the first team in Scotland to achieve this, but were denied when Celtic were crowned champions.
Larsson was around when the Old Firm game was huge, and whilst Celtic have done reasonably well in Europe under Brendan Rodgers this season, given their tough group, and Rangers are right behind them in the league under Mark Warbuton, that period seemed special.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Larsson was asked what his best moment was whilst playing in a Celtic shirt. The former Sweden international said there were moments like winning the treble and reaching the UEFA Cup final, but what stands out was denying Glasgow rivals Rangers the ten in a row title.
“The day that we stopped Rangers winning 10 titles in a row. We came into a situation where we had to stop Rangers from winning 10 straight titles – they’d been the first team to do it. We didn’t understand all of that, which was why we managed to keep our heads,” said the Celtic legend.
Larsson spent seven years at Celtic Park, and flourished under manager Martin O’Neil. The Swede scored 174 league goals in 221 games before signing for Barcelona in 2007. During his time at Celtic, Larsson won the league four times, and the Scottish Cup twice.
