Greek website Sdna claim Celtic are interested in signing AEK goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas ahead of the summer transfer window.
There were reports in the Scottish press last week which said Barkas is on a list of 11 goalkeepers Celtic are considering, however, Sdna claim that he’s in their top three with Hoops sporting director Nick Hammond currently working hard to sign him.
Neil Lennon could be looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper during the next window, with uncertainty over Fraser Forster. Celtic are believed to looking to loan the former England international from Southampton for another season, but nothing has yet been agreed.
It’s claimed the Scottish Premiership champions have been following Barkas since 2018, and there are positive reports about the 26 year old.
Last year, Sdna reported Celtic’s interest in Barkas and claimed The Bhoys could offer as much as €6m to sign the Greek international. However, they now say Celtic are ready to up their offer and complete the transfer of the AEK player.
Barkas has been a key player for AEK this season, with his performances improving steadily. He’s kept 12 clean sheets in 24 appearances in all competitions, and is under contract with Athens side until June 2022.
