Celtic have already been linked to a few attackers in the winter market, and this includes Lille’s Mohamed Bayo. On Thursday, Foot Mercato stated Brendan Rodgers’ side are keen on signing him.

Celtic’s interest in the Guinea international is backed up by Africa Foot, who then provide additional details.

They state the Scottish Premiership winners are among the clubs showing interest in the striker.

It’s claimed Celtic are ‘in the running’ to sign the 26-year-old, along with SCO Angers, FC Metz, Montpellier and Royal Antwerp. There’s no clarity yet on who among these clubs is leading the race for his signature.

Boyo has managed two goals and an assist from 314 minutes in 15 games this season.

He isn’t pleased with his limited role at the Ligue 1 side and wants to move elsewhere in January. The report states there’s a ‘tug-of-war’ between the two parties because Lille are reluctant to let him leave.

The attacker’s compatriot, Souleymane Youla, had spells in Belgium [Lokeren and Anderlecht] and France [Metz and Lille] in the past and he has urged Boyo to pick Celtic.

“If he has to leave Lille, Scotland would be the best destination for Bayo, because Celtic play in the Champions League in the same way as LOSC,” he said.,

“And above all, it is one of the best clubs in the country, present every year in Champions League and the Scottish championship is not so bad.”
