After Thursday’s rather outlandish claim from Le10 Sport that West Ham had made a bid for Celtic’s Moussa Dembélé, and slightly more believable report of interest from Monaco, we’re back to Marseille, who have made him their number one target.
Local newspaper La Provence are the ones reporting the possibility of a deal with the Ligue 1 club still hoping to reach the Europa League group stages, and, more importantly, of an apparent desire from the Celtic striker to return to play in France, especially in a club battling in the top half of the table.
Interestingly enough, this goes against what RMC claimed a few weeks back, stating the player preferred a move to Germany or Spain.
Followed for over a year by the French side, the Celtic striker was the subject of some talks a few weeks ago between the two sides, confirmed in this very report, with claims Andoni Zubizarreta enquired about his availability.
However, Marseille are yet to make an offer, but if they do, they might have a few issues.
La Provence state the price of €20-25m could be an obstacle, as well as competition from the Premier League for Brendan Rodgers’ protégé.
While he might not be against a return to France, Moussa Dembélé is also said to be for an extended stay in Glasgow after his great first season following his arrival at Celtic on a free from Fulham.
Considering Marseille have made a name for themselves this summer for never giving up in negotiations, and with two weeks left in the transfer window, we probably haven’t heard the last of this anytime soon.
