Clearly not convinced by Khouma Babacar to be the regular backup to Giovanni Simeone, Fiorentina are looking around Europe for a new striker this January, and Celtic’s Moussa Dembélé is apparently one of them.
According to La Nazione, relayed by Calcionews24.com, the France U21 striker has the ‘ideal characteristics’ for what they’re looking for, suggesting he’s high on their list.
However, a few obstacles remain in their way, and those are mostly financial.
Dembélé is allegedly valued at around €23m by Celtic (we’re not sure if this is La Nazione or Calcionews24 coming up with that figure), which seems low to us considering we’re talking about a midseason transfer, and the Scottish Premiership champions aren’t exactly prepared to see one of their stars leave in January.
Furthermore, the forward tends to be a regular at Celtic Park when he’s fit, which might not be the case every week in Italy with Simeone in good form recently.
Frankly, this seems like a bit of a long shot, either by La Nazione or Fiorentina (or both), and we’ll need a bit more to convince us this could actually happen, especially when the Serie A side have never spent €23m on a player before.
