Celtic suffered a 7-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in their last Champions League tie. Brendan Rodgers’ side will be looking to overcome this defeat when they face Atalanta later today.
As reported by Calcio Atalanta, Celtic have been allocated 1,300 tickets for their supporters at the Gewiss Stadium.
It’s claimed Bergamo is ‘turning green and white’ with the arrival of the Celtic fans. Those without tickets are expected to watch the European tie at local pubs.
To avoid clashes involving the Celtic supporters, the local authorities will ‘stop the sale of alcohol’ from 9am today until 6am tomorrow local time. Any drink that contains more than 5% of alcohol will be banned during the stipulated time period.
Corriere Bergamo have backed up this report and add that serving alcohol will be banned in restaurants, private clubs and commercial places.
According to Corriere Bergamo, the Celtic supporters have set up a base in Bergamo’s Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe.
Another local outlet, Bergamo News, talks about the support for Celtic in Bergamo and Lecco.
The two cities are separated by less than 40 kilometres and Lecco have an official Celtic Supporters Club. It was founded by Marco Valsecchi, who also owns a pub that screens Celtic matches.
“We are relatively young, having been born in 2018. Today the club has 57 members: the president is Paolo Gulisano, internationally renowned essayist and great Celtic fan,” Marco Valsecchi said.
“Every match is an opportunity to get together, drink one or more pints and follow the matches together: We show Celtic TV, the club’s official TV, so we broadcast every match. We have around twenty fans who often come to follow the matches.”
Another Celtic fan group, Bergamo Celts, was founded 10 years ago, but is not officially recognised by the Scottish club.
