Having arrived at Celtic in July 2021, Kyogo Furuhashi left Brendan Rodgers’ side to join Stade Rennais in the winter market. The Scottish champions also took Jota from the Ligue 1 club on a permanent transfer in the same window.

The Japan international had a good spell at Celtic Park, scoring 85 goals and registering 19 assists from 165 matches. This includes 12 goals and four assists from 32 games for Celtic this season.

Friday’s edition of Ouest-France looks at the forward’s situation since leaving Celtic for the French club.

Furuhashi hasn’t yet managed to replicate his Celtic form at Stade Rennais. He played 67 minutes on his debut against RC Strasbourg on February 2nd. Since then, the 30-year-old has been limited to 26 minutes of action.

Stade Rennais added Furuhashi, Kazeem Olaigbe, Mousa Tamari and Ayanda Sishuba to their squad in the winter market. The report states none of them had an impact on the club so far.

Jorge Sampaoli initially identified the ex-Celtic attacker as a target. The manager was shown the exit door and replaced by Habib Beye in January.

The newspaper claims Furuhashi has been struggling with ‘recurring shoulder problems’ which started at Celtic. They add it didn’t prevent the January transfer but may require ‘serious treatment’ in the summer.

Furuhashi’s frustrations could go on for a while after his Celtic exit.
