Borussia Dortmund have decided against making a move for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, despite being keen to sign a back up for Erling Haaland this summer.
That’s according to Sport 1, who say they have abandoned their interest in the Celtic star despite scouting him this season.
The website explains that Dortmund are on the hunt for a backup striker to Haaland, who has hit the ground running since his arrival from Salzburg in January.
They are also looking for someone who can play alongside him and, after speaking to manager Lucien Favre this week, have made finding one their top priority.
Thus, Michael Zorc and chief scout Markus Pilawa are targeting potential candidates but one ‘prominent name’ has been categorically ruled out.
Sport 1 report that the Celtic star was scouted on several occasions and Pilawa even made contact with him about a potential move to the Bundesliga.
However, this was done before they signed Haaland, and now the club feel having both in the squad doesn’t fit with their plans.
They also consider him too costly, with Celtic demanding at least €30m and Dortmund considering that too high for a player who would be playing a backup role at best.
Much of that is likely as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak in Europe, which has decimated finances across the continent and, according to Sport 1 is making Dortmund’s efforts ‘more difficult’ at this point in time.
Dortmund are instead scouting the market for alternatives and have looked at Deportivo Guadalajara striker José Macías, who is considered one of the ‘greatest storming talents’ in his home country and would be available at a more ‘realistic’ price.
