Celtic failed in their efforts to sign Mario Vušković in the winter market, if reports coming out of Italy are to be believed.
The 19-year-old was promoted to Hajduk Split’s first team in 2019 and is now a regular figure in their starting lineup.
Operating as a centre-back, the teenager has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season for Hajduk. His performances for the Croatian side caught Celtic’s attention in the last market.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say the Hoops and Torino ‘discussed’ signing the player in January.
There could also been negotiations carried out since the Italian club tabled a €4m bid for the Croatia U21 international. Torino were unsuccessful in their efforts because Hajduk Split turned down their proposal.
TMW now claim Hajduk Split are willing to sell Vušković when the window reopens after this season. They are asking for €6m plus a percentage on a future sale, to sanction the defender’s transfer.
Torino are now joined by Napoli and Sassuolo in showing interest in Vušković. It remains to be seen whether or not Celtic will rekindle their interest in the Croatian, having ‘discussed’ his signing in the previous window.
