Celtic signed Paulo Bernardo from Benfica on a loan deal last summer. On Friday, A Bola explained that Brendan Rodgers’ side are trying to make an effort to extend his stay.
Rodgers used the midfielder mainly as a substitute this season, where he clocked in 1,443 minutes from 33 games.
Despite this, Saturday’s edition of Record says the 22-year-old was pleased with his time at Celtic and would like to continue with them next season.
The Bhoys have an option to make his stay permanent, and Celtic are trying to lower the price or extend the loan deal for one more season.
Bernardo has been out on loan since January 2023 and he’s unlikely to feature regularly under Roger Schmidt, if he were to return to the Portuguese club. Therefore, he sees staying at Celtic Park as a ‘good career option’ for him.
This will come as an encouragement for Rodgers’ side, to try to find an agreement with Benfica.
Record points out Bernardo has adapted at Celtic, both on and off the pitch, and this is another reason why he would prefer to extend his stay in Scotland.
