On Monday, we covered a report from Portuguese newspaper Record which stated Celtic intend to finalise a permanent deal for Jota before the end of this week.

Jota spent last season on loan with Celtic and impressed manager Ange Postecoglou enough for the club to want to take him on a longer term basis.

The Scottish Premiership club had a purchase clause in the loan and decided to trigger it, but still needed to confirm personal terms with the player.

Tuesday’s edition of O Jogo, another Portuguese newspaper, is even more confident on behalf of Celtic. They report the Glasgow club are confident they can reach an agreement with Jota’s representatives ‘in the next few hours’.

They will then pay the €7.5m clause, with O Jogo saying that entitles them to 75% of the player’s rights. That claim is a little confusing and what they really mean is that Benfica will be entitled to 25% of a future transfer fee.

The 23-year-old scored 14 goals for Celtic and added 13 assists last season, and O Jogo seem impressed that the club’s fans even dedicated a chant to him.
