Kristoffer Ajer will leave Celtic this summer, with the defender closing in on a move to AC Milan.
That’s what Calciomercato report today, stating that the Celtic man is viewed as the more ‘realistic’ target for the Italian giants this summer.
The website explains that, while they ‘dream’ of signing Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig the defender would cost a high price to secure and so Ajer is a more realistic target.
AC Milan have followed the Celtic defender for ‘several months’ through their scouting team and their board are in ‘constant contact’ with his entourage about a move.
They have received positive reports back from them, with it made clear that Ajer ‘likes’ the Rossoneri and would be open to a move.
As such, their ‘intention’ is to make their move now and attempt to ‘start a close negotiation’. In other words, they want to try and get a deal sorted sooner rather than later.
Celtic, for their part, have a ‘real request’ of €20m if they are to give up a player they consider a ‘jewel’.
Milan are aware of this asking price and are ‘carefully evaluating’ all of the economic aspects of a move before pushing forward with their efforts to secure signature.
At the moment, the ‘engagement’ fits perfectly in the policy that Elliot Management, who have owned the club since 2018, have put in place.
That is an ‘important factor’ to take into account, with the sentiment being that while Celtic are asking for a relatively high price for a player they paid £540,000 for four years ago, it still fits into the overall strategy at the club.
Calciomercato are confident he will be moving, either way, stating confidently that he ‘will leave’ Celtic this summer and his contract, which expires in 2022, will ‘not be renewed’ at the Scottish champions.
