It’s been a summer of investment for West Ham so far, with big money captures of Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller.
There’s also been a fair amount of departures, with Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and several others departing for pastures anew, and Pedro Obiang could be the next one to follow them through the door.
Faro de Vigo report that Celta Vigo are interested in the midfielder this summer as they look to bolster their midfield for next season.
Obiang is a player who would add a lot of experience to the squad, given he’s played nearly 100 games in the Premier League and Serie A, so is an option for them, alongside former Cardiff City loanee Victor Camarasa.
The newspaper doesn’t mention what sort of fee they would want to pay, or whether West Ham want to sell, just that Celta have an interest in the midfielder.
A move is unlikely to come off any time soon, with the La Liga club needing to get rid of players before they can bring more in. In this case, they would need to move on Jozabed before making a move for Obiang.
They may find West Ham difficult to work with, though. The Hammers are not likely to be impressed by the runaround they went through over Maxi Gomez, a player they eventually missed out on.
That whole affair could have soured the relationship between the two clubs and if Celta do make a move for Obiang, it’s likely to be something that comes up in one way or another.
Furthermore, the Italian press believe the midfielder is on the verge of joining Sassuolo in Serie A, so that could be an extra problem for the Spaniards.
