According to reports in the Italian media, Brescia owner Massimo Cellino is on the verge of installing Francesco Marroccu as the club’s new sporting director.

The two worked together at Cagliari, and Marroccu was continuing linked with the sporting director’s role at Leeds United.

TMW have reported via Tuttosport Cellino is set for talks with Marroccu over a reunion at Brescia. Last summer Cellino purchased the Serie B side after selling his remaining stake in Leeds United, and since his arrival has been making changes to the structure of the club.

In 2016 there were reports Marroccu was to become Leeds United’s new sporting director, following the departure of Nicola Salenro in 2015.

Marroccu was observing Leeds United’s training sessions, and watching games from the stands. There were also suggestions he would be brought in to run the Championship side in the absence of Cellino.

However, the Italian’s role at Leeds United remained informal, and he wasn’t brought in on a full time basis.
