Barcelona have been struggling to sign a striker since they, perhaps inexplicably, stood by and saw Nolito go to Manchester City.
Nolito had been Barcelona’s option to play back up to the trident of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Leo Messi, but for whatever reason they hesitated over a deal and lost out.
Since then many strikers have been linked to Barcelona by the Catalan media, with Jonathan Calleri being one of the major ones over the past week. Barcelona liked the idea of signing Calleri because he’s young, and a player they consider to be good value.
But, once again, hesitation seems to have allowed a Premier League club to come in and get the business done. Catalan newspaper Sport on Tuesday cover Calleri’s comments that he’s signing for West Ham Untied, with Sport feeling the Hammers effort to get the player was crucial, and helped make up his decision.
Back to the Barcelona drawing board then.
