Manchester City have enjoyed an unbeaten run since suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of José Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur on November 21st.
The Citizens are without a defeat in the last 26 matches played in all competitions, which includes only three draws, and all of them came in December.
Pep Guardiola’s side are yet to drop points in the league since settling for a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion more than two months ago.
The Manchester club are in contention to win all four competitions this season and their impressive run has caught the attention of Sport.
Their last win came against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday and after the tie, the Etihad club’s manager was asked for the secret behind his side’s 19 match winning streak.
Responding to that, Guardiola said, “We have a lot of money to buy many incredible players.”
Sport are of the belief the former Barcelona manager’s comments were ‘celebrated’ as a ‘triumph’ by Manchester City supporters.
The newspaper further states, ‘In fact, nothing defines the identity of the ‘sky blue’ fans better than this attitude. If they were capable of taking pride in and treating lightly their own misfortunes when they accumulated losses and descents, how can they not do it now?’
It’s no surprise City have a lot of money to spend and their fans are well aware of it. Those at the club ‘do not apologise for having money’ because they aware money alone cannot guarantee success.
Sport think City supporters embrace the club’s financial power ‘without complexes’, so they’re not concerned about criticism of such.
When continuing to praise Guardiola, the Catalan outlet suggests the Premier League coach ‘caricaturing his detractors’ feeds City’s ‘soul’, ‘faced with the feeling of an England wary of its rise’.
While enjoying the winning streak in 2021, City’s wait for the first silverware of the season can end in April, if they manage to beat Spurs in the EFL Cup final.
