During the mini transfer saga of Davinson Sanchez to Tottenham Hotspur, the Dutch media repeatedly linked Real Madrid and Chelsea with the defender.

The tactic seemed to come from Ajax and be somewhat transparent. A Real Madrid offer was talked about in the Netherlands, but that it wasn’t really rumoured in Spain suggests it came from Ajax.

Rather than Tottenham beating Real Madrid and Chelsea, it seems they actually took a step ahead of Barcelona.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Barcelona had been following Davinson Sanchez for a while, only to see Mauricio Pochettino make ‘an express desire’ to Spurs for the player.

Rather than as a loss, it’s taken by Mundo Deportivo as a sign that Barcelona’s idea had merit, and that gives merit to their next target… Matthijs de Ligt.

Barcelona ‘discovered’ De Ligt after constant trips to Amsterdam to watch the now Tottenham player, so all wasn’t wasted.

The 18 year old defender could be part of a new, structured transfer plan for Barcelona, or any plan at all… after the chaos of the window just gone.
