Antonio Cassano isn’t exactly known for his thoughtful approach to the game, or life in general. The 34 year old was last with Sampdoria, but terminated his contract with the Genoa club in January.
Cassano, who was supremely naturally talented, has had 7 clubs in his career, and played for Sampdoria in three separate spells. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian has characteristically said it as he sees it.
When asked to name players he feels are overrated, Cassano said: “Pogba, James, and Balotelli.”
When pressed to elaborate, Cassano added: “Is Pogba really worth €120m? Not for me. Rodriguez €80m? Balotelli? I love Mario and in France he’s doing pretty well, but both he and Pogba have been very lucky in life: they are managed by a very good manager, Mino Raiola, who has given incredible opportunities to both.”
Raiola is an excellent agent for his players, but he probably didn’t force Manchester United to be interested in signing Paul Pogba.
Jose Mourinho wanted a big name for his midfield, and Pogba was the chosen man. The fee went so high because Juventus didn’t have to sell, and Raiola was due a cut of the deal.
Pogba won’t care much for what has been said, it’s expected that every now and again Cassano will pop up and remind everyone he still exists.
