Grêmio have stepped up their search for a new striker and are now in advanced talks with Carlos Vinícius, according to several reports from Brazil.
The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after parting ways with Fulham and is said to be open to returning to his home country this season.
His name had already been on Grêmio’s radar during previous windows, and with the recent departure of Matías Arezo to Peñarol, the club is now accelerating their pursuit of attacking reinforcements.
Local journalist Eduardo Picão reported that the Brazilian side have already made contact with the player’s entourage. “Grêmio reached out to his staff, showed interest and received the figures for signing-on fees and wages,” he revealed, before adding that “the club haven’t moved forward yet.”
Carlos Vinícius had recently been in advanced talks with Corinthians, but the São Paulo side eventually pulled back due to the player’s financial demands and the lack of urgency for a new striker.
Now, Grêmio appear to be considering an approach, although the scenario could shift depending on the player’s willingness to adapt to the club’s financial framework.
The story add that the striker is pushing for a move back to Brazil and may be open to a pay cut to facilitate the transfer.
“He wants to come back to Brazilian football. At 30, it’s becoming harder to find a place in Europe, and he’s looking for playing time. He’s willing to lower his salary and return. Grêmio wouldn’t need to pay a transfer fee, which fits the type of deal they’re targeting,” he explained.
