Carlo Ancelotti ‘gave everything’ to make a return to Real Madrid from Everton this summer, with the Italian pushing for the move personally.
That’s according to AS, who say Everton made a measly €5m from the move, courtesy of a clause in the Italian’s contract.
They explain that Ancelotti initially got in touch with Madrid this summer to discuss players he could possibly sign for Everton.
It was during that conversation with José Ángel Sánchez, the club’s general manager, that he asked if they had found a replacement for Zinedine Zidane.
The initial reply was no, at which point Ancelotti confidently replied, “Well, you already have”, and thus the wheels were set in motion for his return.
He soon phoned Florentino Perez, who ‘enthusiastically accepted the proposal’, and everything was sorted between the two parties in ten minutes.
Even dealing with Everton was a breeze for the Spanish giants, who took advantage of a clause in Ancelotti’s contract that meant he could leave for as little as €5m to bring him back to the club.
Ancelotti even forked out a ‘significant amount of money’ to make the move happen, which we’re assuming was the costs associated with moving from Liverpool to Madrid.
Either way, it was he who seemingly initiated the whole process, something Everton fans can add to the list of things they now don’t like about a manager they thought was in it for the long haul.
