Real Betis goalkeepers Claudio Bravo has revealed he was close to retiring before making the move from Manchester City.
The Chilean goalkeeper joined the La Liga side on a free transfer from Manchester City in August last year, bringing an end to a four-year stay at the Etihad.
He had initially joined City to replace Joe Hart as Pep Guardiola sought out a goalkeeper who was more comfortable with the ball at his feet.
His time at the club proved to be something of a disaster, though, with a series of high-profile mistakes in his first year leading Manchester City to replace him with Ederson.
By his final year, he was playing a substitute’s role, managing 17 appearances in total, but most of those coming in the cup competitions and only four in the Premier League.
Before his move to Betis, it had appeared he would be retiring at the end of his contract; something he has now confirmed was on the cards.
“My idea is to work, enjoy a little and keep working,” he told Betis TV, relayed by 24 Horas.
“I want to finish my career well, in the best possible way. If I hadn’t had the chance of a two-year contract at a club, my career would be over at Manchester City.
“I would have finished it in peace and quiet, but moving my family for a season, imagine now paying for things to leave.”
