Former Cardiff City forward Federico Macheda has been linked with a move to Portuguese club Olhanense, according to claims in the Italian media. The former Manchester United starlet has been without a club after his contract with Cardiff City was terminated by mutual consent in the summer.

TMW have today revealed Olhanense are considering signing Macheda, and the Segunda club wouldn’t have to wait until the transfer window opens in January because the forward is without a club.

Olhanense have sporting director Giuseppe Bifulco within their ranks, and the Italian is keen to bring in his compatriot. However, they will face competition to sign Macheda, with several Italian sides claimed to be interested in the player.

Macheda has never been able to rediscover the form he showed in his first season with Manchester United, when he scored vital goals to help the club win the Premier League title. The forward has had several loan spells with a number of clubs, including Nottingham Forest last season.
