Napoli travel to England this week for their Thursday match against Leicester City.
Following the international break, multiple Napoli players have been at risk of missing the Europa League trip, given they were in red list countries when travelling to play for their country.
That would mean they probably wouldn’t have even be allowed to enter the UK, given they don’t have residency rights, and even if they were they would have had to go through hotel quarantine.
The media around the Naples club has been covering this issue on a daily basis, and there’s been confidence that it’ll somehow all be sorted out in time. There’s been talk of Napoli players travelling to Rome to visit the UK Embassy, in an effort to get special visas which it’s not certain even exist.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has spoken to the Italian media, and said he insisted the situation needs to be sorted out quickly, and certainly ahead of the Leicester match. Corriere del Mezzogiorno quote him as saying: “We fight against Covid, the national institutions and football, I am pleased to play against Leicester who won the Premier, they play well.
“Now the problem has to be accepted by Boris Johnson because we can’t play without Ospina and Osimhen.”
Corriere del Mezzogiorno believe the situation has now been sorted out, and the players will be allowed to travel.
