Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has spoken to his home country’s media regarding the latest developments on Coronavirus in Europe.
The 24-year-old has been interviewed by Radio Sport 890, and talked a little about how it’s been to be quarantined at his home in London.
Following the ankle injury he picked up in the FA Cup clash against Portsmouth, the midfielder says he’s been having to work on his recovery at home.
“I’m quarantined at home. Working on my own in recovery. I had to buy some devices and the club will collaborate with everyone so that we can continue working individually in our homes,” Lucas Torreira told Sport 890.
“I’m happy because the exams were good. I’m still wearing the orthopaedic boot. In 8 or 10 weeks I will be able to work normally.”
The player says Arsenal were not expecting the Coronavirus to affect the club directly, and following the confirmation manager Mikel Arteta was infected, Torreira now says the boss is feeling better.
“The truth is that we didn’t expect this virus to reach the club, the locker room.
“Mikel Arteta is better. He was able to communicate with us and he is improving.
“In recent days, many cases of Coronavirus were discovered in London and people were nervous. In some supermarkets, you can no longer find toilet paper or gel alcohol.”
Torreira says he’d even like to go to Uruguay, where there have been no reported deaths so far, but he can’t get a flight back home.
“It’s difficult for the family to be away. Today I would have to be traveling to Uruguay, but all the flights were canceled due to the Coronavirus.”
Last week, Sport 890 had also interviewed the Uruguayan national team doctor Alberto Pan to talk about the situation of several players. He claimed that Torreira’s injury is not as serious as it was first predicted.
“Torreira’s injury was not as serious as was once thought. He will be immobilised and surgery will not be necessary. We believe that in 7 to 8 weeks he will be able to start working progressively.”
