Watford’s brilliant start to the Premier League season is seeing the club make the sports news around the world.
Nearly every report manages to mention Elton John, as has been the norm for some time, and Daryl Janmaat has even been asked about him by the Dutch media.
Currently away on international duty with the Netherlands, Janmaat put Watford’s great start simply, quoted by AD newspaper as saying: “Four games, four wins. It cannot be better.”
It didn’t take long for Elton John to be brought into proceedings, and clearly pressed on Watford’s honorary club president, Janmaat said: “He comes to the locker room every once in a while, on Sunday as well. Then he gives the trainer a hand and he wishes us luck. Elton John is a great man, he is really treated like a hero in England. He gets so much respect from everyone.”
If getting the pop singer in the dressing room is working for Watford then there’s no reason not to do it.
For the Netherlands, Janmaat will have to do it without him, and the Oranje face a friendly match against Peru, before their real test against world champions France in the UEFA Nations League.
