As Wolverhampton Wanderers star Raul Jimenez today spoke to the Mexican media about his national teammates, he could not escape the questions about Chelsea’s pursuit for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.
The chat with TUDN started with the striker talking about his compatriots who have been moving to Europe very young, and praised them for taking that step.
“Applaud them for taking that risk, that the teams in Mexico gave them the opportunity to leave, they didn’t give them so many obstacles, that’s what I read from here and I’ve found out.
“Well, seeing them emigrate from a younger age in European football, taking that risk, which is the best thing because you are competing against the best players in the world and that is what makes you grow”.
“That can motivate him more knowing that he is in the spotlight, that he’s not only at Ajax but his good performances, because it cost him work and he got that position, now he’s a starter who is watched by important teams.”
The rumours linking Edson Alvarez to Chelsea showed up at the end of the transfer window, with the Blues said to have offered €50m for the Ajax midfielder, who tried to force a move.
However, since the Dutch side had already made big sales in the summer, they resisted to the bid, with the Blues having no time to convince them of a deal.
Still, recent stories have claimed that the Stamford Bridge side have not given up the signing, and are set to make a new attempt in the January window.
So perhaps with the player having that extra motivation, he could convince them to make an even better offer.
