Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso in the summer window, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Gian Piero Gasperini favoured Marco Carnesecchi ahead of the 30-year-old in the league this year. With a contract expiring in 2025, the report says Musso ‘can leave’ the Serie A side this summer, and his situation has caught the attention of several clubs.

Newcastle and Villarreal are mentioned, and TMW state these two clubs have been in contact regarding signing the Argentina international.

The La Liga side are looking for a new goalkeeper to provide cover and competition to Filip Jorgensen, and they have identified Musso as a target. Villarreal would have to battle it out with the Magpies for the South American’s signature.

As of now, it’s claimed there’s a ‘concrete possibility’ for Musso to join Eddie Howe’s side. TMW say Atalanta value the player at €10-12m, which should be reasonable for Newcastle.

Atalanta won the Europa League last month, and the Argentine kept five clean sheets and conceded eight goals from 12 games in the competition.

It’s to be noted that recent clams from the UK have stated the Tyneside club are keen on signing Burnley’s James Trafford.
