On Sunday, we covered claims from Italy that Lazio have included Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto in their target list for the winter market.
The winger was keen on leaving Elland Road last summer, but the Whites didn’t sanction a move. This season he’s managed a goal and an assist from 23 games.
Gnonto maintains a desire to leave Leeds United this month, according to Corriere dello Sport.
It’s said the Italy international wants to return to Italy and has been ‘proposed’ to the Biancocelesti. The report adds ‘he can leave on loan’, without providing Daniel Farke’s side take on sanctioning a temporary move in January.
Last week, the Serie A side lost to Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana. The newspaper states Maurizio Sarri, Lazio chairman Claudio Lotito and their sporting director, Mariano Fabiani, were all irritated with the team’s attitude.
The trio have been deciding how to go ahead in the remaining days of the window and the focus is on signing a winger on a loan deal, with an option to buy instead of an obligation.
Such a loan doesn’t seem so useful for Leeds United, and the idea ‘he can leave’ that way would be a surprise.
There’s the distinct possibility there’s an intermediary at work here, trying to build a deal which can then be presented to Leeds United with the hope it may be accepted.
