If you have a vague interest in transfer rumours, then you’ll have seen all the claims about Julian Draxler over the past few days.

Apparently, a group of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, had initiated talks over signing Draxler on loan in the winter window. There would be an awareness of Draxler’s less than perfect situation at PSG, and therefore a wish to take advantage of it.

The problem is the claims have been reported incorrectly. Originally coming from French newspaper L’Equipe, it was stated that Draxler’s representatives had been the ones doing the contacting, not the clubs.

Therefore, Manchester City will have been contacted and the idea of a January loan explored.

Pep Guardiola doesn’t really have a great need for Draxler, and from a City point of view it’s not a required deal.

But if the German international fancies a move to the Premier League, with L’Equipe clearly believing he does, then there’s no harm in starting at the top of the table with Manchester City.
