Aston Villa’s match against Liverpool last night was the club’s final home game of the season, as they now prepare for the away match against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

That’s why, after the match, players stayed on the pitch to thank fans for their support, with Diego Carlos taking some time to greet his family and friends, and have a word with the Brazilian media.

The defender was interviewed by ESPN Brasil journalist João Castelo-Branco. There, he talked about Aston Villa’s quest to guarantee a place in the Champions League, insisting they’ll be watching Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City tonight.

“It’s important for us to keep adding to our tally, there’s still one game to go, but it’s not over yet, it still depends on tomorrow’s game between Tottenham and City, but we also have a hand in the game to be able to seal our qualification for the Champions League,” Diego Carlos told ESPN Brasil.

Diego Carlos also talked about Aston Villa’s improvement this season and the new objectives they have ahead. He takes the achievements and potential qualification for UEFA’s top competition as something the fans deserve.

“The team has evolved a lot, it’s a very young team, we’re growing, we’ve achieved the goal we wanted from the start and now we have to focus on the last game and hope that we can really seal qualification for the Champions League so that next year we can gift this to the fans in this stadium.”

In 2022, Aston Villa spent €31m to sign Diego Carlos from Sevilla. Despite his struggles with a serious injury and recovery last season, he’s now managed to fight for his place in the starting team, and has made 37 appearances in 2023/24 so far.
