Tottenham Hotspur winger Lucas Moura has spoken to ESPN Brasil following Spurs’ 3-1 win over Southampton at Wembley.

Despite the good result for the London side, the Brazilian player has made sure to say that the performance wasn’t that good, since they allowed the Saints to present too much danger.

“I think the result, 3-1, does not really reflect what the game was,” Lucas told Natali Gedra from ESPN. “I think we gave them a lot of opportunities. As you said, Hugo was on an impressive night tonight. But we managed to take advantage of the opportunities we had, we scored three goals, we opened 3-0, and that gave us some comfort.”

Lucas has also spoken about the ‘hurtful’ loss against Arsenal last weekend.

“And I think the team is to be congratulated for the fight, after a very difficult game against Arsenal, a hurtful defeat against the rival. It’s important to win today to give us confidence again. Happy for the goal to be helping the team. We keep looking forward.”

Lucas was asked if after the win, Tottenham can already start thinking about competing at the top of the table with Liverpool and Manchester City.

“I believe so. The season is still very long, many games. But we can dream, yes. With the performances that we have. I think we can dream, yes. I think we have the squad for it, we have the quality for it. We have to believe and fight until the end.”

With the goal against Southampton, Lucas Moura has now scored six times for Spurs this season. The player has managed to become a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham now prepare to face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium next Saturday.
