It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of AS Roma’s Cengiz Ünder.
The Manchester City manager wanted him at the club prior to his move to Italy, but the Turkish starlet opted for the Serie A side knowing he’d get more first-team action than in the north of England.
Despite this setback, the Spaniard hasn’t given up on the idea of signing the 21-year-old at some point, as explained by Corriere dello Sport.
Guardiola, according to the Italian newspaper, asked for someone to personally watch the forward throughout his first season at his new club.
Ünder stated after the 2017-18 campaign that he would be staying in Rome for at least another year, and then would see where he’s at and what his options are.
That’s why Corriere write: ‘You can bet that [Manchester City] will return next summer’.
Of course, with Monchi in charge of transfers at Roma, you can also bet prising the Turkish forward away from the Serie A outfit would cost Guardiola and co. a pretty penny.
If he can extract €65m or so from Liverpool for Alisson, it’ll be interesting to see how much he can get for the talented youngster.
