Victor Lindelof wasn’t available for Manchester United on Sunday, one of several players manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t able to call upon.

The 25 year old played 90 minutes against Arsenal a week ago, and did the same against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Following the 1-0 loss to Newcastle United, Solskjaer told Viasat that Lindelof was out injured and “probably needs a week’s rest”.

Given it’s now the international break, it’s the perfect opportunity for the Manchester United player to get that rest, and it would be no surprise if he’d have already pulled out of the Sweden squad.

However, he’s not and is expected to join up today.

Jakob Kakembo Andersson, the press officer for the Sweden national team, is quoted by Aftonbladet as saying: “He will come to the gathering today – if nothing dramatic has happened since yesterday.”

There’s a possibility Lindelof wants to show up in person and explain his fitness situation. The defender has previously been accused by the more dramatic among Sweden’s fanbase of pulling out of international duty for questionable reasons, and he’s also had issues with the press there.

Solskjaer will certainly hope and expect his player isn’t risked in Sweden’s match against Malta on Saturday. They then face Spain on Tuesday, and it’ll be interesting to see if Lindelof takes to the pitch.
