Paolo Di Canio is well known in English football for his period with West Ham United, with the Italian becoming a cult hero at the Hammers during his time with the London club.
Since hanging up his boots and putting managerial ambitions behind him, Di Canio has become one of the most prominent pundits in Italian football, which probably isn’t a great surprise given how outspoken he’s always been.
Ahead of Liverpool travelling to Italy this week, to face Inter Milan in the Champions League, there’s a huge amount of coverage being given to the big match.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are receiving a great deal of praise, and there’s no illusion over how hard a task Inter and Simone Inzaghi have ahead of them in the coming days.
Di Canio, of course, agrees with that and has sent out clear warnings to Inzaghi and Inter’s players, about what will happen if they get it wrong against Liverpool on Wednesday evening.
LaLazioSiamoNoi quote him as saying: “If Inter lose the balls they lost against Napoli against Liverpool, and isolates five times one against one, Salah with Bastoni or Dimarco and Mane with Skriniar, then bye bye, bye bye. Let’s pray. Bastoni and Skriniar are very strong but five times one on one with those, bye bye. Liverpool are the worst opponent I could find, not only in terms of quality but also in terms of the team’s principles and dynamism.”
Those words would suggest there are holes to exploit in the Inter Milan defence.
