Burnley FC are today suddenly mentioned in a story in the Brazilian media.
That’s a piece about Cuiabá fullback João Lucas, who’s reportedly being negotiated with Santos.
As A Tribuna writes about the player, they point out that back in August, it was Burnley who tried to sign the 25-year-old.
The Clarets reportedly made an attempt to land João Lucas on a loan with an option to buy. That, however, was turned down by Cuiabá.
The club are now in advanced negotiations with Santos for the transfer, and even though the price for the move isn’t known, we can bet there’s not a lot of money involved, since Neymar’s former club are in a complicated financial situation.
There’s no doubt Burnley have more money than Santos, and the main reason why Cuiabá may have been convinced to turn down the Clarets’ offer is this attempt was for a loan with an option to buy.
If the Brazilian club had the guarantee they’d receive the fee for the transfer, then it’s a lot more likely they’d have accepted it, but it seems Vincent Kompany’s side weren’t prepared to do that.
