For those who expected Burnley to sign Jovane Cabral from Sporting in the final month of the transfer window, there isn’t very good news coming from the Portuguese media today.
The winger was highly expected to leave the Lions this summer, largely because there’s only one year left on his contract and there were no signs of an extension.
So Burnley and others had been working to get him, with the Lisbon press even claiming the Clarets had made two bids to take him away from Sporting.
It turns out, however, that Record reports Jovane now has an increased importance. That’s because he was called back to training with the squad, and talks for a new contract were resumed.
The newspaper mentions Braga, Besiktas, Olympiacos, Burnley and Real Valladolid as clubs who’d been working to sign him this summer. Still, they point out that none of them were able to get him, be it for the ‘lack of an understanding’ between clubs or because of the player’s desire.
Unless there’s a big unexpected offer in the coming weeks, Jovane is now set to frustrate all those interested sides and stay at Sporting for another season.
