Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has admitted it was a “compliment” that Burnley tried so hard to sign him last summer.
Verbruggen was targeted by Vincent Kompany and his team throughout the summer transfer window last year as the Belgian rebuilt the squad at Turf Moor and brought in several signings from his homeland.
They ultimately couldn’t get a deal over the line but have continued to be linked with the goalkeeper since that point.
That has only built as he has impressed for Anderlecht, establishing himself as the number one at the club and putting in a series of impressive performances.
That continued this week with an inspired display in the Europa Conference League, which not only won him plenty of plaudits but also saw him breaking records.
The feeling in Belgium is that Burnley are likely to come calling for him again in the summer, particularly if they are promoted to the Premier League as expected.
Verbruggen is certainly pleased to see such links, but has made it clear he won’t be pushing for a move to Burnley or anywhere else.
“A compliment that Kompany wanted to get me,” he told Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws
“Playing in England is a dream and I could have learned a lot from him and Jelle ten Rouwelaar (Burnley goalkeeper coach.)
“But I was in the greatest possible luxury position. At Anderlecht I have nothing to complain about.”
