Burnley defender Michael Keane has been named in the European Team of the Week by Gazzetta dello Sport. Each week the Italian newspaper selects the best eleven players outside Serie A, and this week the Burnley star has made the cut.
Keane was instrumental in Burnley’s 1-1 against Premier League leaders Chelsea at the weekend. The former Manchester United player had to contend with the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Diego Costa, but he managed to restrict Chelsea to just the one goal.
The 24 year old has been one of the standout players for Burnley this season, and there have been rumours some of the big clubs are taking an interest in the central defender.
Burnley’s draw with Chelsea yesterday maintained the Premier League side’s impressive record at home this season. Sean Dyche’s side have struggled away from home in this campaign, but it seems their form at Turf Moor will consolidate their place in the top flight. Burnley are now nine points clear of the relegation places, and will be confident of staying up.
