A week ago, Belgian website HLN reported Burnley and Southampton are keen on signing Anderlecht star Steven Defour.

The Belgian side are ready to offload him, and have slapped a price tag of €7m on the midfielder.

Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates were also reportedly interest, and could offer the player a better financial deal.

According to a latest report on HLN, Burnley have offered Defour €1.8m/season including bonuses, whilst Al Jazira have put a €3m/season contract on the table.

HLN think it’s now logical Defour would sign for the Abu Dhabi club, and believe a deal could be completed if Al Jazira agree to pay his transfer fee of €7m.

The Belgian international is hoping to leave the club soon, and it won’t be for Burnley unless they decide to increase their offer.

It’ll be a shame if Defour doesn’t have a shot at the Premier League, it may well suit him perfectly. Perhaps there can be a last minute twist and Burnley, or indeed Southampton, persuade the Belgian that England is his best destination.
